The pureness of the Icelandic Horse
The Icelandic horse originated from a pony breed from Scandinavian and European countries. He came with the first settlers in Iceland and has now been bred for ages without blending with other breeds, and is therefore a pure breed horse. In the ever changing weather and the inconsistency of feeding, but, curious and proud, I have survived. His dignity and his personality enchanted the people and found their way into songs, poetry and stories into Icelandic, eg Edda.
Before the Icelandic horse was used for farmer's work and travelling and was very essential. Today the Icelandic horse is first and foremost an interest and a line of work for many people and its popularity grows continuously. It's growth increases from year to year and everything points to it only growing further.

First and foremost it would be diversity in gates and colors. From there one would say that the Icelandic horse stood for strength, health and good temperament. The Icelandic horse is unusually strongly built and tough, does not demand a lot from feeding and accommodation but still manages to get to a high age. He has unusually good temperament and a subjective character. He is rather small and only therefore sometimes referred to as a pony. But all other things point him from ponies.

The horse-culture in Iceland is unusual, in a good way. How much of a unique position has the Icelandic horse, having his special characteristics, and that there's actually nothing I can not do speaks for itself that Iceland is different from the rest. The horse was essential, which formed his status of the Icelandic society. Fx, the stables are quite close to the city and the horse is taken into the daily life. First of all, it'sa great family sport, the family gathers around on weekends and ride together. The proximity of nature and the fellowship that are amongst which makes and cultivation of interest in horses. The youngest ones are not behind. They are put in front of the rider and learn balance and the grip early. The Icelandic horse stands for something indescribable.
