Hm ekki veit eg hvaðan þið faið ykkar staðreyndir en þetta er meðal þess sem eg hef lesið:
Stick foundations:
Pros: Cream-to-powder foundations blend on quickly and easily and provide a semi-matte, medium coverage. They work well for someone with normal to slightly dry or slightly combination skin. The consistency doesn't require powdering after you apply it. If you wish to use powder, make sure you apply it as lightly ads possible to avoid a caked, heavy look.
Cons: Cream-to-powder foundations can blend on slightly thick, providing a made-up look. They don't work well for someone with oily skin because the cream components can make skin look more oily, and they don't work well for dry skin because the powder element can be too powdery looking and cause more dryness. They are best for normal skin types.
These foundations are essentially cream-to-powder foundations in stick form, and the application, pros, and cons mentioned in that section apply here. The main difference between stick and cream-to-powder foundations is the variety of coverage available from sticks. Whereas cream-to-powder makeups provide medium coverage, stick foundations come in formulas that range from full to sheer coverage with either matte or creamy coverage. Many stick foundations also feature effective sunscreens, making them a great all-in-one option. In addition, they can do double duty as concealer, and most product lines offer a wide selection of shades.

Foundation Fundamentals
Of all the color that we put on our face, the right foundation seems to be a constant quest for many of us. So many colors, formulations, and brands-no wonder so many people are afraid of it! Let’s see if I can’t make it a little easier to deal with the choices.
First of all, what is it you want from a foundation? Do you even need a foundation? Even though foundation seems to be the basis for make up, the main objective is to wear as little as possible through good skin care and prevention of damage. Is your skin in good condition but you just want something to help even out your skin tone? A sheer foundation and/or loose powder applied correctly may be all you need for a smooth natural look. If you like color and a sheer foundation wouldn’t look right, or your skin needs more coverage, you may want a moderate coverage. Some moderate coverage foundations are adjustable in how much coverage is possible, allowing you to selectively adjust coverage without a mask-like appearance. Full coverage foundation is for those with past scarring, healed acne redness, or for very formal events.
How To Find A Great Foundation
You need to have an idea of what type of look you are going for (natural, professional, occasion, etc.). Foundations are like pairs of black shoes-different pairs for different occasions. Depending upon your lifestyle, you may need to own a variety of foundations. Normally, a loose powder provides me with the look I want, but I also own a very sheer coverage, a stick for spot coverage, moderate liquid, and moderate to full cream to powder (to cover the late nights!), as well as different finishes (matte and powdery or natural and somewhat dewy).
Look at many different brands. This is one area I suggest you look for in a department or specialty store, as you will want to try them on for color and texture. Find a helpful, knowledgeable salesperson that can show you many brands. Let her help you!
Choose a foundation that matches the skin tone between your cheek and neck (jaw line).
Get skin typed by a professional so you know what formulations to look for. If you are oily, you don’t want a moisturizing foundation and vice versa.
Look at them in different lighting-in the store, and outdoors natural light.
What Not To Look For In A Foundation
Don’t try to add color to a pale complexion with a darker foundation. You will have a dark face, a pale neck, and it will not look natural. If you want to spice up your color, look to a bronzer, blush, or self-tanner like California North Titanium Self Tanner.
Looking for sun protection in a foundation, to me, is not important. Think about it, they rarely have an SPF greater than 15, you don’t apply as much product as you need for adequate sun protection, and who puts foundation absolutely everywhere? I don’t know a soul who puts it on their ears and front and back of neck. Use a separate great sun block, like M.D. Forte Sun Protector SPF 20, or Peter Thomas Roth Ultra Lite Oil-Free Sunblock SPF 30 under your make-up for adequate protection. To avoid creating a heavy feel, particularly in hot weather, you may want to have the sunscreen play a second role as moisturizer. Remember, any cream or lotion applied to the face is going to moisturize in addition to its other intended role.
Don’t start with the heaviest coverage. Most people look better with less. Too much, and it can look contrived. The point is to enhance what you’ve got, not to cover it up so there is a question as to whether it is really you.
When people think of foundation, most women picture a goopy, runny mess. Not so anymore. There are still liquids, but many have been formulated to feel lighter while giving great coverage as well as helping to even out the complexion with minimal product. There are mousse or whipped foundations that have a more luxurious feel to them, cream-to-powder foundations that are smoothed on with a sponge and dry to a light, powdery finish, sticks for those that want a quick dab here and there, tinted moisturizers, powders that can be used with wet and dry sponges, and loose mineral powder foundations. It’s enough to make your head spin. You can then break down these formulations into moisturizing, hydrating, oil-free, oil absorbing, etc.
When applying foundation, start from the center of your face and work outward. The center is where most of us need the most help anyway. It is not necessary to apply foundation to every inch of your face- apply it just where needed to even out the skin tone. If you want a sheer application, you can use a damp cosmetic sponge (found at drug stores for pennies each). I don’t recommend using dry sponges. They tend to needlessly absorb quite a bit of make-up. Then a dry sponge may be used to help blend the make-up afterwards, however. I usually recommend using your fingertips to soften the application. Wash your hands first to remove excess oils. Make-up that needs to be applied with a sponge, like powders and cream-to-powders, should be done so with clean sponges. I usually wash mine with a liquid soap after each use and leave to air-dry overnight.
Let me summarize the highlights for you:
Based upon your lifestyle, and coverage needs, you may want to own more than one foundation.
Shop for your foundation where you can try them out.
To determine the correct color, apply it where it will go-your face. The back of your hand isn’t going to provide you with what you need to know. If it matches your skin tone, it is a strong contender. Try a few others similar to it, to make certain it will work for you.
Know what your skin type is so your foundation works with your skin and not against it.
1. Oily skin tolerates powders and light liquids that are oil absorbing and needless to say, oil-free.
2. Combination skin works best with oil-free foundations in a variety of formulas, as the drier areas on the face don’t need to be stripped of oil, and the T-zone doesn’t need extra oil.
3. Dry skin needs moisture in their foundations. Creams and liquids tend to feel more comfortable and give a better finish.
Choose as light a coverage that you feel comfortable with. Less is more, unless theater is your line of work.
Great skin is the basis of any make up look so protect it!
The good news is that you have more options than 15 years ago. Most contained heavy occlusive oils. Since then most cosmetic companies have taken great pains to remove offensive ingredients and are typically non-comedogenic. The bad news is the fact that you do have so many options. This may make it overwhelming and complicated at first, which is another reason to work with a well-informed cosmetic clerk. The more you know about your skin and what you want, the easier you will have it finding the perfect foundation for you.
