Season three: 2006–2007

Main article: Episodes of Lost (season 3)

Season three will begin airing October 4, 2006. It will include 23 episodes that will be delivered in two blocks: an initial fall arc of six episodes and a second run of seventeen consecutive episodes beginning in February 2007. According to executive producer Damon Lindelof, there will be new characters introduced this season as the fans get to know more of the plane crash survivors. There will be fewer flashbacks of the original characters since the new ones will have their own that will become a unique and central component of the series. Lindelof and Carlton Cuse noted that if the second season was about the hatch, then the third season will be about the Others, as led by “Henry Gale” (who will join the regular cast). Cuse also mentioned what viewers will learn about the Others during the third season: Who are these people? What is their history? How many of them are there? What are they trying to accomplish?

Man, Season Three sounds awesome from the sound of info from the Lost podcast:
(not very spoilery, just the questions that will be explored) Season three will explore what happened on the island before Dharma and who was there. The smoke monster will definitely be back in Season three. There is a good chance we saw the monster this year and didn't realize we were looking at it. By the end of next year we will realize what it was and when we saw it. Why did the Others take Jack, Kate and Sawyer? Where is their home? That will be the story told over the first six episodes. Season 3 will also be about the main characters and their relationships. They want to service the relationships next year more than the mythology. How Locke got in the wheelchair, how Jack got his tattoos will be revealed in Season three.

Season 3 launches in late September 2006, starting with what Cuse and Lindelof calls a “mini-season” of 6 new episodes, running up to early November, ending with a mini cliffhanger. The show will then take a 3 month long break until February 2007, when the season returns with a remarkable 17 all-new episodes which will run uninterrupted until the season finale in May 2007.

The Lost Producers have announced that there will be no reruns next year, only a 3 month break (yes, it sounds long) for ABC's new show Day Break. It is rumoured that the first episode will be called “Him”. This will act as a cliff-hanger as the identity of the one referred to as him will be revealed. Presumably, as LOST goes, at the end of the episode. It is rumoured to be a character we have seen before. Whether in a Flashback or Real Time is unknown. Also, a main question in the first episodes will be “Why Jack, Sawyer and Kate?”.

According to an interview with Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof [2] and according to the May 26th Podcast season three will have more focus on The Others, introduce new characters and romance and interpersonal relationships will blossom.

The four-toed statue is a lead to Season 3 where there will be attention to an archaeological theme and to the people who were on the island before the DHARMA Initiative, who arrived in the late 70s.

Kimberley Joseph will return to her role as Cindy

The monster will definitely be back in season 3.

Michael Emerson, who portrayed Henry Gale in Season 2, will become a regular member of the LOST cast in Season 3 [3].

We will see some “background” survivors who are described as next:

* Female, 30s, with leadership qualities
* Female, early 20s, very attractive
* Male, Latino, early 20s, handsome, mysterious quality

Harold Perrineau is not a regular actor in next season. He will be back as a guest star like Walt did in Season 2

* The growth of Malcolm David Kelly (Walt) will be addressed in the 3rd season

Libby will be back in some flashbacks
