There once was this little girl. She lived on the beach, surrounded by the sun, the blue sky, the peaceful ocean, the warm sand.
These where the happy times.
This little girl believed in the power of the smile, the smile that made the sun go up in the mornings, the smile that made the stars twinkle so sweetly at night.
She looked up to the sky, smiled at the sun, and the sun would make her so warm.
The ray’s of the sun would come down, and make everything so bright and clear……..all this, just because of my smile she thought and kept on smiling.
The beach was filled with people, people walking by, saying hello, smiling happy faces, lit up with wisdom and kindness.
She lived playing in the sand, looking at the sea, listening to these warm beings that travelled all over, and at night the stars would keep her company, the sea lull her to sleep, the sand was still warm from the sun and embraced her so she would sleep so soundly, so peacefully.
Time passed, and so did the seasons, and this little girl wasn’t so little anymore, she grew, but the beach did not. Suddenly everything looked smaller…even the stars.
People where more busy, rushed threw, in a hurry……faces passing by. Some were even looking different, and unknown expression on their faces….something not seen before.
The girl starts to think; oh I will just smile and everything will turn back to how it used to be.
She looked up to the sky, straight at the blinding sun, and smiled…. but for some reason, it did not have the magic power as it had before. Maybe the power was gone ? Maybe the smile had changed ? Maybe the sun was in a different place ? What could it be ?
The girl started to have doubts about the power of the smile at first…..later even going so far thinking that there never was any power, just a silly fantasy of a little girl, a little girl with happy dreams and an empty head.
These where the times of confusion.
One night, when everything was so quiet, when all the faces had left the beach for the night, and the girl was about to lay down to let the nature lull her to sleep ……the sand was not warm anymore. It had forgotten to keep in the last rays off sun, and what embraced her was a cold and damp sand .
Oh the girl thought, it has always been like this, I just never noticed it before, because my silly little head was dreaming all along. Now I am older and wiser and ready for this world and what it has to offer for real. This is not a time for silly smiles and casual hello’s……world here I come.
These where the times of learning.
Seasons came and went, and so did the people, and like the seasons the beach changed. Fewer people passed threw, and most off them where in such a hurry, just using this beach as a pathway to bigger and better things it seamed. Seldom did anyone look up, faces stuck to the ground, looking the other way, or the faces where looking like a question mark ….like to say: U are wrong
This is life, and life is to deal with , the girl said. And so she did.
Never thought of leaving the beach, this beach is my life , my everything. In good times as in bad. And surely these where the bad times.
The days where grey, the evenings chilly, the nights so cold…
Stars where not bright any more, the sand was coldly wet and uninviting. Strange noises at night, frightening noises from a far…..sometimes near, but always there. Days filled with senseless waiting….for something that never came. The faces did not matter any more, they never looked anyway. The just blended into the grey background.
Once or twice she suddenly stood up and made a primal sound, some kind of a scream, like from a wounded animal, but when no one noticed, she stopped. This is how this beach is, this is how life is, and so we must go on. The killing of the spirit, blending in with nature.
Floating in the sea in the day time….. in the salty water….how easy it would be to sway the head back a bit, and get swallowed. Fall into the sea, swim with the seaweed, look at the stones at the bottom, and blend in with the other world…..the world of the sea. But somehow that wasn’t quite right, she knew deep inside she was a creature of the land, not the sea, her place was up here, so she never did.
This has no name.
The spirit had flown away, beyond the sun, to a place far far away, the will was gone to, ran away in the middle of the night, followed some traveller with a promise, promise of another world beyond the salty boarders. Her heart fell asleep one day, and remained sleeping in some blissful unawareness.
What was left? Oh yeah, this shell, this shell of a girl, living according to the rules of the beach, dreams gone with the wind, living in a slow motion world where everything follows the rules of the night.
Numb.
Drifting away…..slowly but surely.
Nothing changed……..until one day. A day like all other days. By now the beach was deserted. Only sand and sea……and a girl.
Looking for food one morning, the girl saw this little flower growing, against all odds, in the middle of the sandy nowhere. Little yellow flower reaching up, trying to catch a little sun, trying to grow. Oh what a sight, what a feeling. Something new, something…not grey.
Little spark inside to wake up earlier in the mornings to look at this weird thing, growing against natures law. Sitting and watching and drifting off to an unknown land, far far away.
Time of the spark, the spark of hope.
But nature can be cruel, and this beach had it’s rules, and nothing defies them, not even a little yellow flower. That was not the norm, that was not acceptable.
And one morning it was gone, just as suddenly as it had appeared, washed away to the big dark ocean, looking at shiny stones at the bottom.
Natures law.
Laying in the sand, so close to the sea, so close that the waves where licking her toes, the salty foam greeting her heels, looking up into the dark sky, where no birds lived any more, when the stars where hiding……..one thought ….little little thought was born. Why ?
She fell asleep, and surely the sea tried to sweep her out …but she woke up…..moved away…….and started to run.
She ran and she ran and she never looked back.
This beach would have to be without her from now on.
The beginning.
She ran so far that she didn’t know where she was anymore. Everything was new. And everything followed new rules, she even made her own. New things are scary, and so was this. She sometimes thought back to the beach, a familiar place that once was her own, but where flowers could never grow.
The start.
Hard work never scared her, and no more did the thoughts of time passed…….she worked and worked, making this new surroundings look familiar….and slowly they did.
One night her soul flew back , decided it had seen enough and wanted to come back home.
Heart awoke one day as well, slept enough.
But the day that the mind …her spirit came back………that was the day when she stood out in the rain, looking at the grey sky, the day that she smiled, the same day that the sun came out from a thunder looking abyss….and sent a single ray down to earth and made this girlie believe again….
