Syd was not always Syd, he´d been christened Roger Keith, but at the Riverside Jazz club he went in to a local Cambridge pub, one of the stalwarts was a drummer called Sid Barrett. The club regulars immediately nicknamed this newly arrival Barrett “Syd”, but with a “y” to avoid total confusion, and that´s how we always knew him.
