DSL providers are in a death march.

North Point Communications, San Francisco, and Digital Broadband Communications, Waltham, Mass., are among those that have filed for bankruptcy in recent weeks.

In recent months, FastPoint, San Jose, Calif., Zyan Communications, Los Angeles, Calif., and FlashCom, Huntington Beach, Calif., have either shut down or filed for Chapter 11.

Last month Covad Communications, Santa Clara, Calif., slashed 14 percent of its work force. It is closing offices so it can reduce operating costs by 20 percent.
