Lars Ulrich has written to Icelandic band Sigur Ros to thank them for inspiring his work on Metallica's new album, after going to see them at a gig in San Francisco, acording to
“Thank you, thank you, thank you! We are in the studio right now struggling to make some sort of album. I'm going to go back after this completely inspired.” Metallica began work on their new album at a secret studio location in San Francisco with producer Bob Rock on April 23.

Sigur Ros, whose album Ágætis Byrjun' is just released in the US, returned to their own studio, a converted swimming pool just outside Reykjavik, to continue work on its long-awaited follow-up.
