Áður en Metallica spilar “one” á sviði er alltaf mikið af sprengingum og flugeldum. Það er ein stór sprenging rétt eftir að james segir “landmine”. Síðan það var gefið út hefur það alltaf verið hluti af sýningum Metallica.

Besta sóló allra tíma:
Sólóið í “One” náði 7. sæti í “100 Best Solos Ever Reader's Choice” í september 1998 í “Guitar World”

“One” demóið:
Upprunalega demóið af “One” var tekið upp á 4-tracka spilara Jaymz rétt eftir að þeir sömdu lagið í annari viku November ‘87.
Demóið er bara spilað á gítar, trommur og sungið og Kirk setti in sólóið sem að er á “…And Justice For All” eftir að hann heyrði lagið bara daginn áður. Á demóinu er enginn bassi

“One” Myndbandið:
“One” er fyrsta Myndband sem Metallica gerði. Það var tekið á 6. desember í vöruhúsi í Los Angeles

Kvikmyndaskotinn í “One” myndbandinu:
Þau eru úr myndinni “Johnny Got His Gun” sem að er byggð á bók eftir Dalton Trumbo sem leikstýrði líka myndinni árið 1971. Myndin er um hermann sem missir hendur og fætur vegna handsprengju í fyrri heimstyrjöldinni. Metallica keypti réttindin til að nota myndina í tónlistarmyndbönd.

1. Venjulega útgáfan:
- Sýnir hljómsveitina spila og atriði úr myndinni.
2. Stytta útgáfan:
- Sýnir það sama og venjulega útgáfan nema myndbandið er stytt
3. Hljómsveitar útgáfa:
- Sýnir hljómsveitina spila lagið án atriða úr myndinni.

Fyrsta Grammy framkoma Metallica:
Metallica spilaði “One” á Grammy verlðaununum 1989. Þeir voru tilnefndir til Grammy verðlaunanna fyrir “…And Justice For All” plötuna og “One” lagið, en töpuðu fyrir Jethro Tull.


Intróið:
Í intróinu heyrir maður vélbyssuskothríð, sprengingar og hrópandi hermenn sem að allt merkir stríðssvæði. Í enda intrósins heyrist dofnandi þyrluhljóð. Vélbyssiskotrhýðin virðist byrja aftur í formi trommu og gítara.

Innblásturinn:
James hefur fengið Innblásturinn af Mynd/Bók Dalton Trumbos “Johnny Got His Gun”. Hugmyndin af intró lagsins er óbeint frá Venom lagi sem heitir “Buried Alive”.

The subject matter:
Ástæða James fyrir að skrifa textann var hugsunin um að vera einangraður frá heiminum líkt og aðal persónan í myndinni/bókinni “Johnny Got His Gun”

Það sem Metallica Segir um “One”
Kirk Hammett: I used a Mesa-Boogie power-amp, an ’88 preamp and an Aphex paramatric EQ on this album. We wanted a clean guitar sound fo “One”. The first solo went fine, but I had trouble with the second; I just couldn't nail it. I only had eight days to record all my leads because we were heading out on the “Monsters of Rock” tour. As a result, I was never happy with what was on record, and I flew to the Hit factory in New York between gigs to patch up the solos. I did the third solo in a couple of hours. I worked out the first right-hand tapping thing and from there it flowed very well. I think it worked because I was so pissed off that the second solo wasn't working out. When I had to play that live, it didn't feel right because it was so clean. So I started playing it in full volume with full distortion on my neck pick-up, and like it better. In retrospect, I think I should have played it that way on the album.

James Hetfield: I had been fiddling around with that A-G modulation for a long time. The idea for the opening came from a Venom song called “Buried Alive”. The kick drum machine-gun part near the end wasn't written with the war lyrics in mind, it just came out that way. We started that album with Mike Clink as producer. He didn't work out so well, so we got Flemming [Rassmussen] to come over and save our asses. (source: GuitarWorld issue of ‘91)
