Djöfull er þetta hrikalega góð hljómsveit, Mastodon, frá Atlanta í USA. Mad blanda af dauðarokki, með slatta af stoner áhrifum, heavy dose af melódískum gítarpælingum í einhverjum power metal keim og svo vissum hardcore keim. Eru að gera alveg einstaka og unique hluti.

Var að tala við Sigga Pönk, undirtónaskríbent og Birkir I Adapt og sánd-skríbent um þá… vorum allir sammála um hvað þetta væri ótrúlega góð sveit. This needs to be heard!!

Ég skrifaði smá mini-umsögn um síðasta diskinn þeirra um daginn, Remission eftir að ég sá þá live í Hollandi og er það hérna:

I went to Holland 2 weeks ago for an awesome weekend of concerts, among those a concert in Groningen with The Haunted (headliner), Mastodon and Hatesphere. The Haunted, albeit being extremely tight and good performers, bored me to tears with their songs. They somehow all seemed to be the same song.

Hatesphere and Mastodon however managed to catch my attention. I felt that I could have enjoyed Hatesphere a lot more had I heard their material beforehand, but they managed to impress me nevertheless.

Mastodon on the other hand ruled the night. This American band is making music that is indeed quite unique, blending almost stoner metal riffage with death metal screams and almost hardcore attitude. Heavy as hell (think death metal), yet at times quite power metallic with solos that you don't normally hear in extreme music.

I got their newest CD, Remission from the guys at the concert and this CD is really nice. I strongly feel Mastodon are doing something unique, without it being pretentious… being unique for the sake of being unique…

Highly recommended
