Since my keyboard is fucked, I'll write this in english.
There seems to be a lot of interest in MMA style training on this site, and I share that interest. At the moment I train Muay Thai in Akureyri, but I will move to Reykjavik in the fall. I will definently continue my MT training and maybe expand my skills with Jiujitsu, Aikido or Shootfighting. What I was thinking is that although it is far too early to think about holding tournaments or anything like that we can still form a solid core group of people from various disciplines that would meet up to share their skills and techniques and maybe spar freestyle behind closed doors.
In order to ensure safety I think the following equipment should be used:
Mouth Guard, Groin Protector, UFC-style gloves and TKD or box helmet.
As for rules, the full UFC rules are probably a little too much to begin with, and I hereby suggest using the rules for the RINGS tournament, which are a little more restricted (No striking on the ground, for instance) , at least to begin with.
I really don't think we need a foreign trainer, rather we should try to create our own styles and techniques, like the Brazilians did with BJJ. Someone who has sports training experience, and a little groundfight+standup experience could supervise and make sure things don't get out of hand, but everyone could chip in instead of learning from just one “teacher” this way, the techniques that work get a chance to breathe, and the others not.
This way, those that like to learn new things can participate and share their knowledge and those that think that this is not “real martial arts” can stay away. I know some TKD people who want to do new stuff but are afraid of offending their teachers.
