Let me in, I’ll bury the pain
HUNK is the player's character in the unlockable minigame “The 4th Survivor”. He is a member of an Umbrella Special Forces team that is depicted being slaughtered by the mutated William Birkin during a flashback in the main game. HUNK somehow manages to survive Birkin's attack and procures a sample of the G-Virus. The player's objective as HUNK in the minigame The 4th Survivor is to reach the heliport atop the police precinct from the sewer and defend themselves from all remaining creatures with the limited ammo provided from the start. Another minigame featured in the game titled “The Tofu Survivor” is essentially identical, replacing HUNK with a giant piece of tofu and is more of a parody/harder version of HUNK's minigame than an actual part of the plot.
HUNK's character is fleshed out in subsequent games through in-game documents acquired by the player and sourcebooks related to the series. HUNK's operation orders is one of the added “EX Files” in the Nintendo 64 version of the game. A character-specific epilogue in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (in which HUNK's face is revealed for the first time) states that HUNK has a habit of being the only survivor of his team whenever he is assigned to dangerous missions, earning him the nickname Mr. Death. Moreover, according to the developers of Resident Evil 3, the character Nicholai has an unspoken rivalry with HUNK. A document authored by the character featured in Resident Evil Code: Veronica reveals that he received his military training in Rockfort Island. After being trained at Rockfort Island he would make frequent stops there delivering experimental B.O.Ws.
HUNK's only other appearance in the series was in Resident Evil 4, as a playable character in the minigame “The Mercenaries”, but is not in any way involved with the main plot of that game. HUNK can also be played in the Resident Evil Outbreak games (in both, masked and unmasked forms) through game modifying cheat devices, indicating that the character was planned to be in the Outbreak games in some form or another.
