Harry Potter vs. LOTR

Hver haldið þið að fái fleiri áhorfendur?

Held að mig hlakki mest til að sjá The Majestic, Jim hefur verið frábær í þeim drama myndum sem hann hefur leikið í og Frank Darabont er með betri leikstjórum í dag.
Annars mun ég ábyggilega skreppa í bíó á Harry Potter, Novacaine, Lord of the Rings og Ali

Ég held nú að LOTR fái klikkaða aðsókn en það má samt aldrei hæpa myndir of mikið þó að hún mun örugglega ekki valda vonbrigðum. Aðrar myndir sem ég ætla örugglega á eru

24 eða 25 dec á Íslandi, man það ekki alveg
fer að panta sæti í Lúxusal =)

LOTR verður með einkunnina 10 og Harry Potter -132, mér hlakkar til að sjá LOTR og líka HP en LOTR verður bara miklu meira brake thru og græðir meiri pening vegna miklar markaðssetningar.

Mér finnst nú bara full mikið að bera þessar tvær sögru saman. LOTR er bókmenntaverk 20 aldarinnar, því neitar engin og svo er það Harry Potter sem að hefur slegið öll vinsældarmet núna um þessar mundir hjá flestum aldusrhópum. Ég er búin að lesa allar HP og allar LOTR og mér finnst þetta vera tvær gjörólíkarsögur sem er eiginlega ekki hægt að bera saman.

Ég vona samt að báðar myndirnar verði góðar þar sem ég ætla að sjá þær báðar, en að fólk sé að segja að myndirnar séu lélegar áður en að maður hefur séð þær er ekki sangjarnt.

LOFR 10 vs HP 8

Ég held að LOTR verði betri en Harry Potter og ég held það vegna þess að LOTR höfðar betur til mín heldur en Harry Potter. Ég hef hvorki lesið LOTR né Harry Potter. Ég hef einungis séð trailera af þeim báðum og geri mér því nokkurn veginn grein fyrir því hvernig myndir þetta eru. LOTR er svona meira dark og ég fíla það betur, þess vegna held ég að hún verði betri(að mínu mati og eftir mínum smekk). Síðan er alltaf möguleiki á því að myndin Harry Potter verði ekkert eins góð og bókin, það er nú ekki eins og það hafi ekki gerst áður að “bókin sé betri en myndin”.
my point is lady´s and gents- bók er ekki = kvikmynd í sumum tilfellum.

Það mun birtast smá umfjöllun um Novocaine og The Majestic eftir mig á næstu dögum. VERIÐ VIÐBÚIN!!

Asnaleg umræða! Ég hlakka mikið til að sjá Harry Potter myndina því ég hef haft mjög gaman af bókunum og svo hefur myndin fengið góða dóma. Eins og flestir vita þá bíð ég mest spenntur eftir LOTR því það er uppáhalds sagan mín. Annars eru þetta allt öðruvísi bækur. Harry Potter eru léttari að lesa og meiri afþreying(frábær afþreying). LOTR er með mun alvarlegri tón og meira bókmenntaverk að mínu mati, enda var hún valinn besta bók 20 aldarinnar í Bretlandi. Varðandi aðsókn þá held ég að þessar myndir eigi báðar eftir að græða mikið. Hef ekki hugmynd um hvor græðir meira, enda skiptir það mig ekki máli. Málið er að þær verði góðar myndir.

Í kjölfarið á allri þessari “LOTR vs. HP” umræðu:

Báðar eiga þessar myndir það sameiginlegt að vera gerðar eftir bókum, og báðar eiga þær sameiginlegt að vera eins líkar bókunum og mögulegt er. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone er búin að fá rífandi dóma eftir forsýninguna í síðustu viku, gagnrýnendur hrifust af henni ekki síður en börnin.
Þær 20 mínútur af Fellowship of the Ring sem voru sýndar á Cannes í sumar eru ekki búnar að fá síðri gagnrýni og miðað við það sem að ég hef séð af myndinni (þ.e.a.s. trailerana) þá verður hún alveg rosaleg.

Undirritaður er búinn að lesa allar þær bækur sem að tengjast myndunum. Undirritaður var alveg heillaður af bókum beggja höfundanna. Málið er ekki hvor myndin verður vinsælli eða hvor myndin fær betri dóma. Málið er að maður skemmti sér yfir þeim! Það er hlutur sem að sumir gleyma í hita leiksins. Argh, þú lætur eins og markaðurinn sé allt og myndin sé ekkert, Smokey! Þú kemur ekki með nein rök, aðeins skoðanir sem að eru bundnar heitri ást þinni á Lord of the Rings. Er ekkert sem heitir “málefnaleg umræða” á þínu heimili?

Viltu kannski ekki bera saman Star Wars og Gladiatior? Myndirnar eiga það sameiginlegt með HP og LOTR að þær eru alveg jafn ólíkar. Önnur gerist í allt allt öðrum heimi en hin.

Blah, ég nenni ekki að vera að standa í rifrildi, ég ætla að fara að ráðum Peter Jackson og sjáá báðar myndirnar í staðinn fyrir það að afneita annari sökum einhvers “fanboyisma” >:D

Ég varð bara að senda þetta inn til að þið sem eruð í vafa áttið ykkur á hversu mikil snilld þetta er, lesið þetta vel og vandlega(heavy spoiler):

Ever since the Cannes Film Festival this year, the ‘Net has been abuzz about the incredible Lord of the Rings footage that New Line screened at the festival. Recently, New Line has been going around from city to city and showing the reel to members of the press. When they came to San Francisco, it was finally a chance for IGN to see the footage first hand, and we were definitely blown away.

Attending the screening were the two biggest Tolkien fanatics in the IGN offices, IGN Insider’s Jason Bates and myself. So we were definitely going in to it with a critical eye to make sure all of the little details were done right and nothing was really messed up. And what did we find wrong? Nothing. Peter Jackson has brought Middle-earth to life and it's a shame that Tolkien isn't still alive to see this.

The footage opens with the Cannes introduction by Peter Jackson on a cart with Ian Mckellen as Gandalf. Sir Ian IS Gandalf. There is no one I could possibly imagine in that part after viewing this footage. He completely becomes the old wizard we all remember from the book.

That short introduction leads into a shot of Gandalf's cart entering Hobbiton and parking in front of Bag End (as seen in the latest trailer). He walks up to the round door and knocks on it with his gnarled staff. When the door opens and we get our first glimpse at a living, breathing hobbit on the big screen, words are hard to come by. Bilbo doesn't look too CG'ed or “fake” and both him and Gandalf are able to interact perfectly.

When the footage moves inside Bag End, we see exactly what we weren't expecting. The little hobbit hole looks exactly as it has in those old Tolkien calendars and lithographs. With Hollywood's ability to mess up something as simple as an interior of a house, this early look at perfection truly soothed some fears.

The footage speeds up a bit from that meeting as it jumps quickly from scene to scene in the first film. We see Bilbo's birthday party, Gandalf talking to Bilbo about the ring and then seeing him on his way, Frodo gaining the ring from Gandalf, Saruman looking extremely evil as he speaks to our good wizard, the Hobbits in the Prancing Pony and spotting Aragorn in the shadows looking at them, Frodo jumping to the ferry (again, as in the new trailer), Frodo at the mirror, the building of the Fellowship, we see the sequence of the entire group passing by the camera as in trailer 2 only this time it is set to the Gladiator soundtrack, and finally it slows down when Gimli tells Gandalf, “We could go through the Mines of Moria.”

Right after that line we see the now familiar doors opening, and then our jaws hit the floor. Moria lives. Jackson and the crew at WETA have done a stunning job re-creating the ancient Dwarven underground and the results have to be seen to believe. The pillars reach into the darkness above and stretch into infinity in every direction. Our Fellowship looks like a group of ants standing next to them.

The scene continues as Gimli finds the grave of Balin, and shortly after that the drums begin. As soon as the Orcs smash through the door it is total chaos. Legolas, Boromir, and Aragorn take the front line, but eventually things get a little too hot so the Hobbits jump on into the action.

If you've had any worries about WETA's job with the effects, the Cave Troll will settle those. While it is CG, the beast fights and interacts with the Fellowship just as it should. At one point it is swinging a chain at Legolas, who is on a ledge. When the chain gets stuck, a CGI Legolas quickly runs across it and begins to attack the beast from its shoulders.

The battle ends with Frodo being stabbed with the Troll's spear (which doesn't kill him thanks to his Mithril coat), and then the Balrog comes. As the Fellowship is running out of the mines they become surrounded by thousands of orcs that come from everywhere; from the ground, behind them, and even the ceiling and down the pillars.

Right when everything seems to be as bad as it could get, it becomes worse. An otherworldly orange glow appears in the distance and scares away the orcs. It can be only one thing: Balrog.

As the group makes their way to the bridge the cross the collapsing stairs (you can see this in the new trailer as well) as a group of orc archers try to pick them off one by one. Legolas uses his trusty bow to wipe them out as the Fellowship finally makes its way past that danger and the Balrog appears behind them.

The beast's head is huge and almost looks like a bull. You really couldn't see its body in this footage (as it was obscured by the fire), and the scene came to an end with Gandalf yelling “You…shall not…pass!” and slamming down his staff. There is a bright flash of light and then the words “December 2001” appeared on screen.

Then, coolness begins. A few minutes worth of footage from The Two Towers and The Return of the King flashes by our eyes and our jaws drop once again. Rohan. Wow. You see an amazing aerial shot of Rohan and the detail done on the sets is amazing. The New Zealand locations that they used were beautiful. After this trilogy, I think they should officially re-name New Zealand “Middle-earth”. Armies clash, the War of the Ring begins, you see Aragorn getting suited up in his armor, Helms Deep, Sam and Frodo on the mountain, and finally Frodo on Mt. Doom just about to throw the ring into the cracks when he is tempted by it and almost puts it on.

The question remains, how does it compare to the book? Will purists be upset? Well, while you can't please everyone, they have done a phenomenal job bringing this world to life. Every detail in each frame, be it a rune or a costume, is just as you would expect and is actually shocking just how right they got everything.

This 26-minute tease was incredible, and it makes the next two months harder to bare as we wait for The Fellowship of the Ring to open so we can see the whole thing on the big screen.

Hey folks, Harry here… I got a ton of LORD OF THE RINGS news in the last few hours, so I figured I would just place it all here for now.
First… I had an hour long conversation with… ahem, Joseph Young of Africa last night. Now, Joe has seen the movie, however Mr Young was a fairly radically paranoid type. You see at this point only a few people that work with PETER JACKSON, a few folks at NEW LINE and a couple of DISTRIBUTOR types have seen the film thus far and he didn't want anything to go wrong… So after proving beyond any doubt that he was who he was, he began to allow me to question him about having seen the film.
First, I wanted to determine what this person's taste was. What their expectations were going into the film. What other movies are in their ‘taste’ area… That sort of thing.
Joseph Young is a geek. No two ways about it. At one point when we were talking about Sean Astin, he said that he always thought of Sean as Rudy, I interupted with, “What about Mikey?” And he retorted instantly with, “Well of course he'll always be a GooooooooooooNnnnniiiiieeeee!!!!” Just an instant reaction… I bopped his knee and he instantly knew how to react. He loves STAR WARS to death. Flaws and all. He can't stand Ewoks, but can't help singing along at the end of the original RETURN OF THE JEDI. He has problems with PHANTOM MENACE, but loves it because it is STAR WARS and he can't not not love it. (How's that, a triple negative!!!) But let's get into the thoughts regarding LORD OF THE RINGS.
Now he has seen it more than once. (Go ahead, It is ok to hate Joseph Young) First, in regards to the film he said, “In 1977, STAR WARS changed film. I love Star Wars. Star Wars played my town for 7 straight months and I remember as a kid going back to the theater… Finding it no longer playing and crying. I'd seen the film in theaters over 50 times. Star Wars is what made me fall in love with film. I love it warts and all. FELLOWSHIP OF THE RINGS avoids every mistake that STAR WARS made. The acting, the story-telling, at every turn the film is simply effortlessly perfect.”
I asked, “Well how does the film play for you?”
“It starts off with a prologue. Now I know the books, so I thought this was going to be repetative, but instead it was like presenting the scope of what is to come. It took me by the hand and said, ‘And this is where all of this begins’. Watching Bilbo hug Gandalf, well you've seen that in the Cannes reel, but Harry. There was something so otherworldly magical about it that I just couldn't help, but be delighted. The party scene for Bilbo's birthday plays very fast, but it is during this sequence that you really notice how much you like Elijah Wood. It was strange, it was kind of painful watching him here because he's just so innocent. Those eyes of his, so happy and filled with the simple joys of Hobbit life. I know where this is going so I just empathize with him very profoundly.”
“First, I have to say that Ian McKellen is not in this film, Peter Jackson actually cast Gandalf in the film. I think that might stand in the way of Ian getting any sort of nomination out of this film, because you can't conceive of him as being anything other than Gandalf. It doesn't feel like acting. It feels like he's Gandalf. But the man who steals the movie in my opinion is CHRISTOPHER LEE. OHMYGOD. OHMYGOD, when you see him. WOW. Christopher Lee was just the shit in the film. If he doesn't get some sort of nomination at the end of the year. He's just so incredibly awesome. In his scenes with Gandalf… WOW.”
At this point, award concepts came to mind, so I asked, “What sort of award potential do you see in FELLOWSHIP?”
“Score. It definitely has score wrapped up. There is so much more music than is just on the soundtrack. It is just amazing, and the way it performs with the movie. Wow. Costumes, Production Design, Effects, Cinematography. It will win Cinematography hands down. The film is just astoundingly photographed. This could have all the technical awards wrapped up. As for the others, I don't even want to pretend to guess about those. I mean writing, direction, acting and the overall film. They are all amazing, but I just fear that the Academy will see this as being so natural, so easy. I mean it feels like this is exactly the way it ought to be. I mean the characters. They are all just exactly who they are in the books. It doesn't feel like acting because THAT'S HOW THOSE CHARACTERS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE. But will they know that? I don't know. If I were voting, this would win everything.”
At this point I was curious about a point and asked, “Well how does it compare to BRAVEHEART or GLADIATOR?”
“Ok, well BRAVEHEART was basically the title. The film had so much heart and so much soul that what you were left with a very emotional film, but flawed on several different levels. I like that film quite a bit though. In GLADIATOR though. God I love that movie. GLADIATOR was just firing on all cylinders. Pardon my french, but it was just the fucking best. It was just great cinema. FELLOWSHIP OF THE RINGS combines the two and has that same sort of fucking best firing on all cylinders great cinema feeling, but it is also has all the heart and soul that I got out of BRAVEHEART. People so do not know what they are heading into. I walked into this thinking there was no possible way it could live up to my expectations. When I walked out that first time, all I could think was that there was no way that TWO TOWERS and RETURN OF THE KING could possibly live up to expectations. OHMYGOD. This is that new benchmark by which all others will be judged. It is perfect!!!”
At this point I was getting very excited. As I imagine you are, but the thought crossed my mind and mouth, “Well, does it have any flaws?”
“No, not really. The weakest link for me was Liv Tyler, and it wasn't that she is bad. I really think she's quite good, but I could not help but see her as Liv Tyler first, not as Arwen first. I can't say that with all the others. Every other character is the character first for me and the actor underneath second. Like Viggo Mortensen, he is Strider first. He is that character. I don't see Sallah, I see Gimli. That guy playing Legolas, where did they find him. He IS LEGOLAS. There's this one point in the woods where he's shooting orcs, and his arms are just a blur of motion and the look on his face was just so damn cool. He just moves like an Elf and I can't really describe that, but when you see him fighting, you'll know what I mean. He's an Elf.”
“Coming into this that first time I was really concerned with Sean Astin. I just couldn't help but think RUDY, but he IS Samwise Gamgee! Other than Christopher Lee, Sean Astin steals the movie. I just love him in this film. And Elijah Wood, I don't think he has a clue how big and popular he's going to be out of this. He's the heart of this film.”
At this point there were a couple of specific questions I had. “I heard that the last thing Peter Jackson did on this film was take every frame into a computer and bring out colors and desaturate colors at different points. What's that like?”
“Oh well it looks great. At the Mines Of Moria, it is just creepy as can be. But like at Lothlorien he's brought out the blues and yellows and it is just otherworldly. You've never seen a film that looked like this. It has a totally different feel to it.”
MMMMMmmm, can't wait. Next I was curious if at this point, does NEW LINE and Peter have a trailer or a preview of TWO TOWERS and/or RETURN OF THE KING before going into credits or after them.
“No, not yet. Though personally that would be cool.”
Awwwwww, come on…. NEW LINE… At the very end… after all the credits have rolled, have a “COMING CHRISTMAS 2002: THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWERS” let that be framed center of the screen… then…. KABAM!!!! 2 minutes of TWO TOWERS coolness, followed by “COMING CHRISTMAS 2003: THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING” and KABLOOIE!!!! 30 Seconds of ROTK footage! The audience en masse would stay throughout every last second of the credits… Wishing they had been one of the names in the making of the film and suddenly… CHEERS rip out of the audience as they run out of the theater to get back in line.
Ok, well that's all I have from Joseph Young right now, but I imagine he'll be back with more coolness from time to time. But for now, here's some comments from Ian McKellen.
