Arsenal's 49ers go down with a snarl
After 49 matches and 17 months of sharing the exuberant beauty of Arsenal’s unbeaten run, we deserved more than to watch it all end in ugliness. We had forgotten since the last time it happened so very long ago that The Invincibles are bad losers. Very bad. And even if that is part of what has made them so difficult to conquer, it meant that their record-breaking run ended stripped of honour and grace in this tempestuous 2-0 defeat. Something so incredible, something that will probably never be approached again, should have ended only with handshakes and applause. Instead, Arsenal risked tarnishing the memory of everything they had won by throwing their toys out of the pram like spoilt brats when they confronted defeat for the first time since May 2003.
