Roman's latest £85m deal!
Date: 25/11/2003
Roman Abramovich's critics, many of whom suggest that the Russian will soon grow tired of life as Chelsea owner, will be alarmed to hear that he has agreed to buy a home in Kensington - which at £85 million is the world's most expensive house!
The estate, in Kensington Palace Gardens, is currently owned by Formula One tycoon Bernie Ecclestone. Ecclestone was Roman's guest at the recent 5-0 thrashing of Newcastle, and according to reports the two thrashed out a deal which will enable Abramovich to live close to his now beloved football club. And with 12 bathrooms, a garage with space for 20 cars, a ballroom, swimming pool and a barber shop amongst other things, the estate in the heart of London's most exclusive area will be an ideal place to relax after watching the Blues storm to yet another victory down the road (hopefully starting with the games against Prague and ManUre.)
This news will hopefully silence boring taunts from opposition fans, and cynical members of the media, who have suggested that the Russian billionaire's involvement in the club will be short-lived. The location, and sheer enormity of the price Abramovich has paid for his new home, proves once again that his comments a few weeks ago in which he suggested he could be Chelsea owner for “25, or even 50 years” may not just be a dream.
