Fifa confirms “tragic” death of Cameroon star Foe



Marc-Vivien Foe collapsed and died after playing in Cameroon's 1-0 win over Colombia in the Confederations Cup on Thursday.

Foe had to be carried from the field unconscious 15 minutes before the end of the game. Medical staff tried to resuscitate him for around 45 minutes without success.

The cause of death has yet to be confirmed but 28-year-old Foe, who spent last season on loan at Manchester City and also had a spell with West Ham, is believed to have suffered a heart attack.

Fifa confirmed the news of Foe's death in a statement ahead of the kick-off in France's semi-final against Turkey in Paris.

“Fifa are announcing in tragic circumstances that Marc-Vivien Foe has died this afternoon during the match between Cameroon and Colombia.

”Fifa and the world family of football want to give his family and the Cameroon team their condolences.''

The match in Paris was preceded by the image of Foe on the stadium's big screen and a minute's silence.

He played more than 60 games for his country and also played in France for Lens.
