After winning the championship trophy the Fiorentina arrived in 2nd position for 5 championships and in the championship 1958/1959 closed the season scoring 95 goals.
During the 1960/61 season, although a championship with many problems and very little luck, proved to be an exceptional one in the Italian Cup and in the Cup Winners’ Cup.
This season passes in history as one of the two in which Fiorentina won two titles (the other was 1965/1966).
The Italian Cup was won on the 11th of June 1961 beating in the finals Lazio by 2 to 0 with goals scored by Petris and Milan, after having eliminated Messina in the 8th finals (2 to 0), Rome in the quarter finals (6 to 4), the Juventus in the semifinals (3 to 1).
In the Cup Winner’s Cup the Fiorentina won against the Swiss in Luzern, (3 to 0 in Switzerland, 6 to 2 in Italy), the Yugoslavians of Dinamo Zagabria (3 to 0 in Italy, losing 1 to 2 in Yugoslavia); in the finals won over the Scottish of Rangers Glasgow with the first match in Scotland (2 to 0, 17th May 1961) and on the return match in Florence by 2 to 1 ten days later.
But the ten years between 1960/70 were destined to pass in history as the best period of this tuscan club: in 1962 the Fiorentina was once again in the finals of the Cup Winners’ Cup but was beaten 3 to 0 by Atletico Madrid during the repetition of the first final ending 1 to 1.
In 1965/66 the Fiorentina won the 3rd Italian Cup beating Catanzaro in the final in Rome on the 19th of May with a much suffered 2 to 1 in supplementary time: Hamrin scored the first goal, Marchioro equalled with another goal and the decisive penalty goal was scored by Bertini. In order to arrive in the finals the Fiorentina eliminated Genoa (3 to 0), Palermo (4 to 1), Catania (1 to 0), Milan (3 to 1), Inter (2 to 1).
Also in 1966 the Fiorentina won the Mitropa Cup beating in the finals the Czechs from Jednota Trencin: (1 to 0) goal by Brugnera.
The ten years closed with the victory of the 2nd Championship Cup during the season 1968/69 under the guidance of the trainer Bruno Pesaola and the Presidency of Nello Baglini.
The mathematic certainty arrived on the 11th of may 1969 with the succes 2 to 0 on the field of the Juventus, thanks to the goals of Chiarugi and Maraschi.
Also in this championship as in that of the first Championship Cup, the Fiorentina lost only one match, the 3rd of november 1968, 3 to 1 by Bologna.
The head scorer of the Championship Cup Year was Maraschi with 14 goals. The ever present were Superchi, Ferrante, De Sisti and the same Maraschi.
