A young man asked an old rich man how he made his money.

The old man fingered his wool vest and explained, “Well, son, it was 1932. The depth of the Great Depression. I was down to my last nickel, so I invested the nickel in an apple. I spent the entire day polishing the apple, and at the end of the day I sold the apple for ten cents.”

“And, then?” pressed the young man.

“The next morning, I invested the ten cents in two apples. I spent the entire day polishing them, and at the end of the day I sold them for 20 cents. I continued this system for a month, and by then I'd accumulated a fortune of $1.37.”

“I don't get it,” said the young man.

The old man continued, “Then my wife's father died and he left us two million dollars.”
