Well, it works like this:

1. When our program was run and a pirated code was entered, it immediately extracted certain data from your registry (email address and a unique identifier) and sent it to our FTP server. Your info was assigned a unique number for our tracking purposes.

2. We looked in our server log to determine your IP address at the time that you ran the program. Since your IP address is not, in fact, random, but rather dynamic, it falls within a certain block of IP addresses assigned to a particular ISP. If the block is unique within our logs, we can easily find out when you downloaded the file and, based on the referrer field, where you linked to our site from. If that block is not unique, we simply contact the ISP in question. They are able to look in their logs and tell us who was logged on at the time and date we give them and what IP addresses you had been assigned previously. We then look for those IP's in our logs.

Pretty simple really. But, the important thing is not that we have your IP address, but that we can trace the crime back to your computer which, via the unique identifier, we can easily do.

So, just so you know, our attorneys will not be in contact with you. Based on the laws in your area, one of two things will happen: 1. Our attorneys will file a civil suit based on copyright infringement, the laws of all countries allow us to choose between actual damages, $15 plus costs, or statutory damages which range from $20,000 to $250,000. We always choose the statutory damages, of course. Then you are served papers by the court in your area requiring you to respond and appear. If you do not respond, we win by default. If you do respond, we have to prove that you infringed on our copyrights. That is easy. We have not lost yet. Then the judge may have the option to remand the case to a criminal court for criminal proceedings. That is dependent on local law. or 2. We must initiate everything criminally, in which case our attorneys file charges with the authorities in your area. The police arrive with a warrant and arrest you. At that point, all is out of our hands. In 99% of cases, we have the right to request that all equipment used to violate our copyrights be seized and destroyed, in this case, your computer system. Based on local law, and the level of crime this is determined to be by local law, the police may also seize any property used in the commission of the crime: house, furnishings, etc.

So, anyway, now you know what all of this entails. I will be more than happy to show you the exact evidence we have against you at any time up to the point that this goes to our attorneys. We afford everyone the same period of time to think things through, hopefully make the right decision and make amends by purchasing a $15 registration code to prove they have the legal right to use our program. Otherwise, everything goes to our attorneys and it is out of my hands completely.
