“I have 110 feedback on Ebay all from buying (guitars too). It's pretty safe IF you know what you're doing. I've only been ripped off once, over a year ago (on a $800 amp). Here are a few tricks that always work for me…
1) Most important to me…A high feedback count doesn't really matter. Check the sellers past auctions, if he's sold other expensive items, you know he's probably legitimate.
2) Make sure the seller uses real (not stock) pictures. Then compare the auction pics with the pics in his past/other auctions, and try to tell if it's the same room/location they're taking the pics at. That way you can tell if they're real, or just saved pics from someone else.
3) If you are suspicious at all, tell the seller you live close to him/her, and would like to pic the item up in person if you win the auction to save on shipping. If you do win, see if they will actually go through with it, you can always just make up an exuse to not meet and just pay them normally.
4) Look at their other auctions. If they are new and/or have low feedback, and then all the sudden have 50 high priced items listed for sale all at once, that should set off red flags.”
