Jimmy Page
I could spend hundreds of pages writing about Jimmy Page and his incredible career but to make long story short, this is the result.
Jimmy Page is one of the most famous guitarist and songwriter in the world. He was born January 9, 1944 in Heston, Middlesex in the U.K. His real name is James Patrick Page. He has been married twice and has 3 kids. He has been arrested and charged with posession of drugs twice but hasn’t gone to jail. His incredible career spans four decades. Jimmy was best known for his trademark, Les Pauls, double-neck guitar and the guitarriffs-master deluxe. His contributions to rock history are nearly unmatched. He first taught himself to play guitar when he was 13 years old, by picking on a Spanish acoustic guitar that was given to the family. His first band was Neil Christian and the Crusaders. Jimmy went to an art college for a while, but quit to become a professional musician. Jimmy joined the Yardbirds and at first he was playing the electric bass, then he played doubling on lead guitar with Jeff Beck, and ending up as solo guitarist. Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, and Jeff Beck were all in that band but they were never all in the band at the same time. In the early sixties, he performed and recorded with several bands including Carter Lewis & the Southerners. His first taste of success came with an early session (in 1963) that reached #1, “Diamonds” by Jet Harris & Tony Meehan, with Jimmy on the guitar.
In a rare hand-written letter in 1963, sent just after this single peaked, Jimmy expressed his excitement: “I was lucky enough to play backing guitar (on ”Diamonds“), the ex-Shadows Jet Harris & Tony Meehan. You can understand how knocked out I was when it made #1 position”, writes Jimmy. Incredibly, a 19-year-old Jimmy Page writes to his American friend, Ron Kellerman, asking “Do you think there would be interest in America for a guitarist like me?” This is by far one of the biggest understatements in music history. He turned out an offer to join the Yardbirds after Eric Clapton left. He later joined the Yardbirds in 1966. In 1968 he, with the help of Peter Grant, formed Led Zeppelin in 1968. Jimmy played the guitar, wrote all of there songs and produced all of there albums. The formation of Led Zeppelin in the summer of 1968 would bring incredible success. He played with Zeppelin until it broke up in 1980 and in 1990 he re-mastered all of the Led Zeppelin albums and prepared the boxed set himself. In 1984, Jimmy joined Robert Plant in a band called the Honeydrippers. Also in 1984, Jimmy joined Bad Company's Paul Rodgers in the band: The Firm. They only released two albums. Jimmy also performed on “Tall Cool One” Robert Plant's biggest solo hit in ‘88, and released his only solo album, Outrider the same year. In 1993, he released an album with David Coverdale, but it wasn’t a very big hit. In 1988, the remaining members of LZ were offered $100 million to do a reunion tour, 1 album, and 1 video. They turned it off. Jimmy’s last band, that he still play with is: The Black Crows. Jimmy’s career has been colourful and he has released lots of albums and written a lot of songs. Jimmy will be remembered as one of the best songwriter and one of the best guitarists in the world.
