YOKO ONO is planning a special tribute gig in Iceland to mark what would have been JOHN LENNON's 70th birthday in October (10).
The Beatles legend, who was shot and killed in New York City in 1980, would have celebrated the milestone on 9 October (10) and his widow is planning a series of events to mark the occasion.
Ono will present the Lennon Ono Grant for Peace award, which was created in 2002, to four key figures for their contribution to world harmony, and after the ceremony she will light the Imagine Peace Tower illuminated memorial, located on an island close to the Icelandic capital of Reykjavik.
The artist/campaigner will then play a special concert with the Yoko Ono Plastic Ono Band

http://www.clashmusic.com/news/yoko-ono-plans-iceland-eventYoko Ono is set to host a special event on Iceland to celebrate what would have been John Lennon's 70th birthday.
John Lennon died thirty years ago yet the former Beatle still holds pop culture transfixed. The recent biopic ‘Nowhere Boy’ demonstrated just how popular the songwriter remains, with plenty of new biographies in the works analysing his life and output.
Tragically murdered in 1980, Yoko Ono still attempts to keep her late husband's message of peace in the public eye. To celebrate what would have been Lennon's 70th birthday the Japanese artist has arranged a series of events on Iceland.
Travelling to the Scandinavian island Yoko Ono will host several special events on October 9th to honour John Lennon's life. Attempting to promote peace, the events will contain some spectacular ceremonies.
Yoko Ono is set to present four artists with awards from the LennonOno Grant For Peace. Created in 2002, the fund will give awards to film maker Josh Fox, author Michael Pollan, poet Alice Walker and activist Barbara Kowalcyk.
Rewarding their bravery, the awards will then be followed by the lighting of the spectacular ‘Imagine Peace Tower’. Yoko Ono will invite fans from across the world to join her in spirit when she lights the huge sculpture.
Taking place on the island of Viðey, the ceremony intends to allow the light and prayer to become a collective expression of the desire for peace.
Fans can watch the events HERE.
After the lighting, the Yoko Ono Plastic Ono Band will play a special one off concert. Frequently joined by some legendary guests, the band have not yet revealed full details of the concert.
The Iceland event is just one of several celebrations planned. John Lennon's ‘Box Of Vision’ is a new project allowing fans to record their messages about how the singer has effected their life.
Due to be buried for 30 years, the box is a reminder of just how potent John Lennon's work remains.
