Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix
After the massive success of Kingdom Hearts in the United States , Japanese gamers soon realized that, like most Square RPG’s, Kingdom Hearts was given new bosses, new cut scenes and overall more playability than the US version. Japanese gamers wanted a taste of these features, and Square seized the opportunity and released the English version of Kingdom Hearts to the masses in Japan . Naturally, Square made additions to Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix that probably won’t see the light of day here in the United States , including a confrontation between Cloud and Sephiroth within the Olympus Coliseum. Below is some information about Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix, so that you aren’t left in the dark about new scenes that are only accessible in Final Mix that could be potentially crucial to the storyline leading into Kingdom Hearts 2.
ChangesKingdom Hearts: Final Mix has many additions to the game that were added onto the US version of the game. For instance, on the US main menu, an illustration by Tetsuya Nomura depicts Sora standing in a river with something sticking out of his mouth. In Final Mix, Sora Is illustrated with a hooded jacket, holding a flag. Small changes and large changes alike are scattered across Final Mix, this list chronicles most of them. Changes

Ansem ReportsThe US version of Kingdom Hearts included 10 Ansem Reports, which can be read in the Journal after obtaining them. Final Mix includes all 10 Ansem Reports, and also includes 3 additional reports, which translate as follows:
Report 11
In opening the door that stores a world's hearts, the wall around that world is broken down. We see this as a shooting star. Through this, I have been able to understand the reason why the material known as Gummi Blocks has the ability to allow travel to other worlds.
The cause of a world's wall collapsing is the appearance of the Heartless, but finding a world's door takes time. And robbing a world of its heart is a similar case.
If the door has been closed by the key known as the Keyblade, you probably cannot reach that world's heart again. Before the one with the Keyblade appears in this world, I must take measures to do something.
Supposing that there is a close relationship between the Princesses and the Keyblade, it seems likely that they will resonate with each other…
I have chosen one special girl. I do not know if she possesses a power like that of the Princesses. But, there is a chance, and this is an experiment. She may lead me to the place where the one holding the key is…
I shall send her off to the ocean of other worlds.
Report 12
I have transcended to an existence of only the heart. I should have come back as a Heartless, but there is no sign of such a transformation.
My body has surely perished. However, I am different from the other Heartless, keeping the memories of before, and I have not taken on the form of a Heartless. It is clear that there are still many things to be studied.
In order to cross over to the dark side, which is not this world, you must go beyond the door of Kingdom Hearts, the place connected to the world's heart.
The innermost part connected to the world's heart, the place connecting to the world of darkness. (I will record the details in another report…)
There are still so many unknown worlds.
The present world.
The world of darkness.
The world of light.
And,
The world in-between.
Where does the true paradise lie, I wonder?
Report 13
When the heart casts off the flesh, where does the body go?
Heart and soul are separate, and the spirit remains in the body. But can we assume that the leftover body and soul perish?
Certainly when the heart changes into a Heartless the body disappears.
However, that is only this world's story; in another world, mightn't they change forms like the Heartless and exist there?
If we take that to be the case, there must be a you other than yourself existing somewhere.
An existence neither of darkness nor of light. An in-between existence. Cast off by the heart, a mere shell, one who begrudges both the darkness and the light.
This mystery cannot be easily resolved. The relationship between the heart and the flesh is a complex one.
But since we exist here, they cannot be termed as existent.
Therefore I shall call them…
The non-existent ones.“
New HeartlessThe US version included 4 new bosses, one named after a contest-winning fan named Kurt Zisa. Not only did Final Mix include the 4 bosses from the US version of Kingdom Hearts, but it also included an additional boss, and at least one new heartless for each world.

New ScenesRiku arrives in the dark world
This scene depicts Riku arriving in the Dark world shortly after Sora wakes up in Traverse Town. It shows Riku calling out to his friends at the entrance to Hollow Bastion while Maleficent looks on from above.
Riku within the Dark World
Riku is shown before a white path leading into the darkness. Riku then says, ”I can't disappear yet… Not until I've met Sora and Kairi one more time…“ A mysterious voice beckons from the darkness, telling Riku that he will be there soon, telling him that he has been speaking to Riku all along but that Riku was blinded by the darkness covering his heart. He then proceeds to tell Riku that he has obtained the keyblade for the dark side.
This unknown voice continues, explaining that Riku’s heart has been taken to the Dark side where stolen hearts are gathered. The voice then says “The door of darkness is soon going to appear. That door, through which we cannot pass… In order to close it, Two keys and two hearts are needed. Perhaps you too, like me, come here for that purpose… Maybe it was fate.”
The unknown voice tells Riku that he should be able to feel Kairi and Sora's hearts. Out of nothingness, Sora runs up to Riku from the darkness. “How you perceive your friends is dependent on your own heart.” Sora is shown smiling as he is getting closer and closer, and Riku closes his eyes and begins to imagine Sora. He then opens his eyes slowly, and the screen fades to white as we hear Riku say a simple “Thank You.”
Showdown of Fate
After Defeating Sephiroth, Sora Exits the coliseum arena, where Cloud enters. From the center of the arena, cloud spots a single black feather floating towards the ground, with a shadow appearing right on top of it. Two feet touch the ground and Cloud and Sephiroth are finally within each other’s grasp. They exchange words briefly:
Cloud: So we meet as last…
Sephiroth: I was searching for you too
Cloud: As long as you exist, I cannot wake from this nightmare…you are my darkness
Sephiroth: If that is so, I shall draw you into the darkness. Into the nightmare that deprives you of light from which you can never awaken.
After this short exchange, they both raise swords and begin to fight furiously in the air. Unfortunately, they clash swords for around 30 seconds before fading to white, leaving the victor to your imagination…
The Unknown
The Unknown is a boss battle that occurs within a portal which appears in the chapel of Hollow Bastion once you reach the end of the world. Once inside, a mysterious man appears, and then becomes transparent, rushing through Sora as a burst of memories and flashes run through Sora’s mind. Afterwards, they fight furiously, exchanging many blows. After Sora unleashes the final attack, the man becomes transparent. Sora asks who the man is, to which he replies “I am…a mere shell” and vanishes out of sight.
Deep Dive
Deep dive is the title of an alternate ending which occurs at the end of Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix. The video shows a man who looks like Riku, fighting a bunch of Neo Shadows in a dark and sinister looking town. As the fight progresses, other unknowns from the Organization show up to help the fight, as monitors flash Kairi’s image all over the city. Text is laced throughout the presentation from the kingdom hearts universe. While this FMV is an add-on, it raises more questions than it does answer them.
