39th chapter
high seas
Over the high waves of the great seas lay thick fog where the merry pearl danced over the currents.
The stars were bright and would have shone to the lonely watchman, as he kept company to the half empty bottle of whatever liquid he’d dragged up there with him. He looked around, took a sip and closed his eyes.
Far away screams erupted, and captains were killed. Dead eyes were kept on the horizon where the growing shadow of the merry pearl played tricks.
More screams erupted in the nearby ships. But soon the entire fleet was silent and under the control of one mind.
Exen’tor blinked. He was worried he’d cut his eyelids so close was the sword.
He felt the familiar paralyzing, mind boggling corruption creep up his back.
Not as strong as usual, but definitely paralyzing.
He looked into pure white dead eyes that still portrayed the egotistical nature of the supposedly immortal undead creature appearing before him now.
Sworddevil.
“Don’t you bastard ever die?”
Sworddevil grinned with a mouth that seemed a bit to small for his liking.
“ Nah doesn’t seem like the fun its cracked up to be.”
Exen’tor went over events in his newly awoken mind.
Get to stranglethorn. Check. Get a ride with bloody pirate that plan to use your skills to kill other people. Check. Succeeding in lying tot hem by telling them a bigger lie about night elves waiting at steamwheedle. Check.
Wake up at night with Sworddevil in front of you even though Mesfer has been looking for him every second they spent on the ship? A big check.
“What do you want? “Exen’tor said trying unsuccesfully to move his hand towards his hidden dagger.
“What do I wan’t? well the same thing as usual really, your unconditional surrender to my glorious lich king thass what I want.”
“Over my dead body we will “Exen’tor answered bravely.
Sworddevil looked at him like he’d made joke without the punchline.
“You know that pretty much how it will go right? You will join him after you die?”
“It was a figure of speech!”
“If you say so”
There was silence, most unusual for Sworddevil, but he kept the grin and behind the cold dead eyes Exen’tor could see that he was aching to proclaim his excellence in all areas.
Swordevil spoke again, this time more cautious than ever:
“See here’s the deal elf, quite frankly we don’t know why the trolls would want anything to do with you or how you do the things you do every day, you’re breaking every rule of magic every time you cast something.”
“What do you mean?”
“And of course the fact that you genuinely don’t know what’s going on around you. But lo for I the Great and all powerful devil of swords come bearing two choices to you from my even greater lord.”
“The first one: you come to us and we figure you out, no more trying to turnj you into immortals, you come to us willingly and we will help you reach your full potential.”
“Over my charred body! I’m not going..”
“Number two: we will sink this ship and everyone on it killing hundreds of innocent bystanders in the process. And then we’ll take you.”
Exen’tor took a long hard look at Sworddevil, somewhat covered in the shadows.
“What kind of a joke is this? The scourge ran out of boats to attack us with? So they send you with some kind of a ridiculous offer to contribute to their ridiculous plan?”
“No this is a test of your heroism really” Sworddevil said surprised, “someone of your caliber would normally save the lives of many at the sake of….”
Exen’tor interrupted” Listen, you obviously don’t know this about me,” he grabbed the sword with one hand and golden sand began to trickle from his hand, “I don’t give two tugs of a dead dwarf about anyone outside my team.”
The sand came slowly in greater quantity, swirling around the sword.
“I am a gatekeeper” ,Exen’tor said slowly, “my mission is to warn my people, my real people, and to take action against Arthas before it is to late.”
The sand swirled faster around the sword now, swallowing it.
“And if that means the death of a few hundred others then so be it. I must succeed.”
The sands swirled heavily around the blade now and Sworddevil who had been trying to tug it back sighed:” not again.”
“This stopped you once and should do so again.”
The sand now filled half the room seemingly appeared out of thin air.
The sword rusted and faded away in dust and then the sand attacked Sworddevil.
He jumped and slung another sword, feebly cutting the sand and dodging its attacks.
But it got to him in the end, first just an arm, then a leg and then most of his body.
He fell down not much left of his upper body.
“We know what you’re planning! when you joined with our power at the temple he saw it all, we know the real reason for your ambitions.”
“Good for you, “Exen’tor said sarcastically, “lets see you try to stop me.”
A bell was rung.
“ALL HANDS ON DECK! “Somebody screamed.
Exen’tor trampled Sworddevils dissipating head under his foot.
“Just you try. “
There was considerably little panic on the decks.
It should rather be regarded as stunned amazement over the fact that merchant ships were now attacking them, pirates!
This was a clear violation of protocols! this had never happened before, captain luffy was already writing an angry complaint letter to the merchants guild.
Not exactly sure whether if it would ever reach them but writing stuff down on paper really helps he said to himself
Exen’tor burst through the door, and was as stunned as the pirates. The merry pearl was surrounded by merchant ships, all in collision course.
It was as if the merchants were trying to ramrod the pirates to death.
Except there were no merchants in sight, just the ships, but from the muffled screams fom within it was evident there were people locked inside them.
Mizra burst through a suddenly frozen wall near Exen’tor, apparently doors were not in this season.
“Mizra “he said,” go and see who’s the ships and take them down.”
Mizra nodded grew her ice wings and with a flutter was away.
Mesfer jumped down on his head and said:! you should come play poker with us in the nether, that was quite the bluff.”
“Poker?”
“To long to describe, lets just say that ones bluffing capabilities are expected to be substantial.”
“I had to tell him that I did not care, otherwise he’d just try this kind of a stunt again risking even more people. “
Mizra came flying back,” Exen’tor!” she yelled over the blasts of cannons, doomed merchants and torn sails,” there are about five ship all manned by undeads. Spells have no effect they have some kind of a shield going on i’ll have to board each and every ship to take care of it.”
“No’a change lass”, luffy said coming from the captains quarters, “we’ve got five incomings anysecond, the cannons can’t handle thes kind of thing, we ain’t ever seen this ,, this ,, stra’egy yeknowhatahmean?”
“Now ye go and ye blast these sons ‘abitches down.”
“Mizra resume our plan, go now” Exen’tor said hastily.
“Oi blood elf we’ad a deal regarding yer skills and I need them right bloody now!”
“Listen” Exen’tor said angrily over the explosion of a failed cannonshot,” we’re not killing hundreds of innocents just to get through this, there are better ways.”
“We’ere going top kill them sods fer their money anyhow, and now its fer our lightdamned survival! Can’t see any frekkin difference!”
“WE ARE NOT KILLING….” Exen’tor was interrupted by an enormous stroke of heat as a gigantic ball of fire singed right over his head right into an incoming ship.
The ship was immediately in flames and its front had been completely decimated.
With it sails gone it and being generally on fire, the ship slowed down and nearly halted.
Another fireball emerged, and another shooting from somewhere behind Exen’tor each and every fireball destroying every ship.
At last Sira’dreth was down to the last ship, wich mizra had boarded and was saving from collision.
Their eyes met and Sira’dreth threw a ball even bigger than the last.
And with a big explosion and a loud whoosh sound the ship and everyone on it were reduced to ash in mere seconds.
most plans are critically flawed by their own logic.a failure at any step will ruin everything after it.
