Posted this on my guild boards; an approximation of the number of man-hours required to make this weapon.
8x Sulfuron Ingots, 12% chance of dropping – 66 2/3 kills of Golemagg the Incinerator, assuming 6 hours per kill = 400 hours x 40 people = 16,000 man-hours over 400 days (for resets).
20x Dark Iron Bar = 160x Dark Iron Ore = 160g
50x Arcanite Bar = assuming ~22g apiece, 22gx50 = 1,100g
25x Essence of Fire = assuming ~2g apiece, 2gx25 = 50g
10x Blood of the Mountain = assuming ~40g apiece (higher on Allakhazam, but T-Horn prices are cheap), 10x40g = 400g
10x Lava Core = Assume these gained through Golemagg runs
10x Fiery Core = Assume these gained through Golemagg runs
1x Eye of Sulfuras = 3.5% drop ~= 28.57 kills ~= 29 kills x 3 hours per kill (time to Majordomo and back, plus setup and kill time, assuming a 1st attempt kill) = 87 hours x 40 people = 3,480 man-hours over 174 days (for resets).
So… assuming you don't get any Sulfuron Ingots or the Eye of Sulfuras through purchase, you're looking at 19,480 man-hours over the course of 400 days (>1 year FFS!!) plus 1,710 gold.
So… Blizzard ought to buff this to about 120 DPS (not kidding or exaggerating, 120 DPS is not all that much considering armor reduction – you'd get more from having some really high quality gear anyway) or severely reduce the requirements.
(Don't know if it was said or before, but the people who made this item almost definately just copied and recopied characters over to the Test server in order to dupe materials in order to make one; else they were one of the first guilds to start doing Golemagg, in which case they spent 19,480 man-hours and 1,710 gold in order to get one person this “amazing” mace (“amazing” because it isn't anywhere near the effort))
“The only way you're able to come up with that ridiculious number of man-hours for item cost is by multiplying all the numbers by 40 people, which makes no sense. Even if it takes 66 2/3 kills of Golemagg, those other people don't lose their loot by coming with you. They aren't ”dedicating man-hours“ to finding Ingots, they're just tagging along for their own loot.
I mean by that logic something as simple as getting the Might chestpiece to drop off Golemagg requires 6 hours * 10 (might has close to a 10% chance of dropping) * 40 hours, which is 2400 hours, or 100 days of playing Molten Core. For just the might chest. Your math is ridiculious and flawed.
The only useful math is that with a 12% chance of dropping, it will require 66 2/3 kills of Golemagg on average to come up with the Sulfuron Ingots. Even your item costs are flawed since dark iron costs differently per server, and it's fair to make the same assumption that you'll get some dark iron from your guild to help build Sulfuras.
Everything else in your post is useless crap.”
