New 10GB and 20GB are slimmer, with a new scroll wheel, new menu options, calendar support, clock, and better access to "secret" game. New updated iPods are due in August. A case and remote control bundle is $39.<br><br>* Apple introduces iTunes 3 which is available as a free download starting today. Single-window app that can publish personal calendars to any Web site, including .Mac (if a member–"another .Mac service"). iCal offers built-in subscription, allowing users to "suscribe" to any calendar on the Web with customizable update frequency. Events to all subscribed calendar events are overlayed over your own calendar. It offers search functions, automatic changes to Web-hosted versions, email notification of changes to calendar, and other options, including exchange of calendars via iChat. It is due as a free download in September and will work (only?) work with Jaguar<br><br>* iTools has doubled members to 2.2 million members. iTools will be replaced by .Mac on September 30th. Apple is delivering what Microsoft's .NET couldn't: new .Mac services. It will include email (IMAP, POP, and Webmail), 100MB of iDisk ("extremely fast under Jaguar") with security features, new backup software, and new virus software. .Mac will be available in retail packaging. Both online and retail version will cost $100/per year with first-year discount for present iTools members ($50/year).<br><br>* Mac OS 10.2 will cost $129 and will be delivered in stores on August 24th ("less than a dollar per new feature") Apple will be offering an "Up-to-Date" program for all Macs sold in future, offering it for $20 on CD. Includes automatic file transfer by drag & drop to files to any buddy without file sharing.<br><br>* Address Book centralizes contact info in a system-wide database. Integration of .Mac services such as homepage, email, iDisk as well as mapping of addresses on the Internet. Offers large type display for viewing from across the room. Integrated Bluetooth technology into Jaguar can automatically dial Bluetooth-enabled phone (when used with a $50 Bluetooth USB adapter). Jobs and Schiller demonstrate automatic dialing from phone as well as multiple options on the desktop for receiving phone calls, including sending phone call to voice mail or replying with SMS message from computer. <br><br>* Mail.app improvements. Many improvements, including better handling of multiple email accounts, threading, instant searching in single or multiple mailboxes, and in-line playback of QuickTime moves . New Junk Mail feature is "coolest" feature of the Mail.app. The 'Training Mode' marks junk mail by coloring it and allows computer to learn by users' marking other mail as 'junk.' Automatic mode moves all junk mail to another folder (demo fails; Jobs unable to demonstrate feature). <br><br>* Rendezvous technology: automatic discovery of devices on network without configuration. Due out in iTunes 6-9 months down the road ("early next year"). Jobs and Schiller demonstrate sharing Music through iTunes–not copying music over network, but streaming music via pop-up playlist that automatically appears/disappears with zero configuration. It is standards-based and totally open. Schiller also demonstrates automatic configuration of a network printer. To be included in Epson, HP, and Lexmark printers.<br><br>* Inkwell technology: handwriting recognition integrated into foundation of operating system. Works with every application.<br><br>* Sherlock 3: Completely rewritten channels as Internet services. <br><br>* QuickTime 6: In last 1.5 days, Apple has 1.5 million downloads since its release on Monday. QuickTime 6 has MPEG-4 support. "Everybody is jumping on bandwagon…except for Microsoft." MPEG-4 includes AAC audio technology, which was invented by Adobe. Schiller demos QuickTime 6. Macworld Keynote is the first live stream of MPEG-4 in the world–expecting about half of the 50,000 viewers to watch using new MPEG-4 stream. Compares audio and video quality of QuickTime 6 as well as demos instant on streaming.<br><br>* Apple announces Jaguar as Mac OS X 10.2 with 150 new features. It is launching Maya 4.0 for OS X. Blizzard announcing new games. Adobe launching Photoshop Elements 2.0 with iPhoto integration. Real networks launches REALone player for OS X (as noted earlier today), including a demo of REALone player for OS X.<br><br>* Jobs references OS X adoption rate issues raised by Macs. 2.5 million current Mac users. 77% of Mac users keep OS X as default . That means that 5 million OS X users by end of month. That means that 20% of Mac installed base will be using OS X in less 24 months. <br><br>* Switch Campaign: 1.7 million unique visitors to Apple's "Switch" Website. 60% or 1 million visitors are from Mac.
